Privacy Policy — Scene

This Privacy Policy describes how App Dev Company United LLC ("Company," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Scene mobile application ("App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.

1. Information We Collect

Information collected automatically

We do not use analytics SDKs or third-party tracking tools. We do not collect advertising identifiers, build advertising profiles, or track you across other apps or websites. Our backend provider (Supabase) may log standard server request metadata (such as IP address and timestamps) as a normal part of operating the service; we do not use these logs to track or profile members.

Information from third parties

If you sign in with Apple, we receive your Apple ID and, if you choose to share it, your email address. We do not receive your Apple password.

Movie and TV information displayed in the App (titles, posters, release dates, overviews) comes from The Movie Database (TMDB). This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. Your searches are sent to TMDB through our servers to look up titles; TMDB does not receive your account information.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

Provide and operate the App (authentication, your profile, your rankings and watchlist)
Enable social features (following other members, the activity feed, comments and likes, the leaderboard)
Keep the service safe (acting on reports, enforcing blocks, limiting abuse)
Send essential account communications (password resets, critical security notices)
Improve and maintain the App

We do not use your information to:

Serve advertisements
Sell or rent your personal information to third parties
Build advertising profiles
Send marketing emails (unless you explicitly opt in)

3. How We Share Your Information

Visible to other members

Your username, display name, avatar, bio, rankings and scores, comments, likes, and who you follow are visible to other members. If you turn on Private profile in Settings, your rankings leave the public Everyone feed, people search and the leaderboard; people who already follow you still see your rankings in their Friends feed. Your email address is never visible to other members.

Service providers

Supabase (database, authentication, file storage) — your data is stored on Supabase's infrastructure.
Apple (Sign in with Apple) — if you use Apple authentication.
The Movie Database (TMDB) — receives the search terms you type, not your identity.

Legal requirements

We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.

Business transfers

If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred. We will notify you of any such change.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on Supabase's cloud infrastructure, which uses encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. We implement Row Level Security on all database tables, rate limits on every write, and server-side checks on every ranking action. While we take reasonable measures to protect your information, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure.

5. Your Rights and Choices

Access and update your data

You can view and update your profile, rankings, watchlist and comments at any time through the App.

Control who sees your activity

Turn on Private profile in Settings to leave the public feed, people search and the leaderboard. Block a member to remove each other from your feeds, searches and leaderboards.

Remove a ranking or a comment

You can remove any of your rankings (tap Watched again on the title) and delete any of your comments. Removing a ranking also removes the likes and comments attached to it.

Manage app permissions

The App asks for access to your photo library only when you choose an avatar. Everything else works without any device permission.

Delete your account

You can permanently delete your account and all associated data through Settings in the App. Deletion is immediate and irreversible.

6. Children's Privacy

Scene is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

7. California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, request deletion, opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information (we do not sell or share personal information), and not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

8. European Privacy Rights (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area, you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data; restrict or object to processing; data portability; and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

9. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all personal data is permanently deleted from our systems.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or by other reasonable means.
