Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 7, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how App Dev Company United LLC ("Company," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the BellHop mobile application ("App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly
| Data | When | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | Account creation | Authentication, password reset, account communications |
| Username and display name | Account creation and profile setup | Identifying you to other users |
| Password | Account creation | Authentication (stored as a hash; we never see your plaintext password) |
| Profile information | Profile editing | Bio, home city, avatar photo — displayed on your public profile |
| Instagram handle (optional) | Profile editing | Displayed on your public profile so others can find you on Instagram |
| Hotel ratings and reviews | Ranking a hotel stay | Core app feature — your scores, notes, tags, and visit dates |
| Photos | Adding photos to a stay (from your camera or photo library) | Displayed with your stay on your profile and in friends' feeds |
| Contacts (phone numbers) | Using the "Find Friends" feature | Sent to match against existing users' phone numbers to suggest connections. Used only for that request and not stored. |
Information collected with your permission
Location (optional): If you grant location access, BellHop uses your device's location to find hotels near you and to suggest your current city. Your location is used only while you are actively using the App to perform these searches. We do not track or store a history of your location on our servers.
Information collected automatically
We do not use analytics SDKs or third-party tracking tools. We do not collect advertising identifiers, build advertising profiles, or track you across other apps or websites. Our backend provider (Supabase) may log standard server request metadata (such as IP address and timestamps) as a normal part of operating the service; we do not use these logs to track or profile users.
Information from third parties
If you sign in with Apple, we receive your Apple ID and, if you choose to share it, your email address. We do not receive your Apple password. Hotel information displayed in the App comes from public data sources including OpenStreetMap contributors.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and operate the App (authentication, displaying your profile, ratings, and social feed)
- Enable social features (following other users, viewing friends' hotel ratings)
- Match you with friends via the contact-matching feature
- Find hotels near you when you use location-based search
- Send essential account communications (password resets, critical security notices)
- Improve and maintain the App
We do not use your information to:
- Serve advertisements
- Sell or rent your personal information to third parties
- Build advertising profiles
- Send marketing emails (unless you explicitly opt in)
3. How We Share Your Information
Publicly visible
Your username, display name, avatar, bio, Instagram handle, hotel ratings, reviews, photos, and social connections are visible to other users. Your email address and location are never publicly visible.
Service providers
- Supabase (database, authentication, file storage) — your data is stored on Supabase's infrastructure.
- Apple (Sign in with Apple) — if you use Apple authentication.
Legal requirements
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
Business transfers
If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred. We will notify you of any such change.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on Supabase's cloud infrastructure, which uses encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. We implement Row Level Security (RLS) on all database tables. While we take reasonable measures to protect your information, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure.
5. Your Rights and Choices
Access and update your data
You can view and update your profile information, ratings, and photos at any time through the App.
Manage app permissions
You can grant or revoke the App's access to your camera, photo library, contacts, and location at any time in your device's Settings. The App's core features work without these permissions, though some functionality (adding photos, finding friends, nearby-hotel search) requires them.
Delete your account
You can permanently delete your account and all associated data through Settings in the App. Deletion is immediate and irreversible.
Withdraw from contact matching
The "Find Friends" feature is optional. Phone numbers submitted for matching are used only for that request and are not stored.
6. Children's Privacy
BellHop is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
7. California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, request deletion, opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information (we do not sell or share personal information), and not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
8. European Privacy Rights (GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area, you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data; restrict or object to processing; data portability; and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
9. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all personal data is permanently deleted from our systems.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or by other reasonable means.
